Central California Deaf Community
Alliance for Justice

Our Mission

Hello friends!  Welcome to the Central California Deaf Community Alliance for Justice website. We were inspired by the formation of The Los Angeles  Deaf Community Alliance for Justice organized by 5 past presidents of The Greater Los Angeles Council on Deafness (GLAD).  We realized that many of the problems they were experiencing were similar to ours here in Central California. For this reason we formed our own group to try and provide a forum for ideas and encourage the Deaf Community to regain control over their Department of  Social Service organizations and govern their own affairs.  Listed below are a few of the goals that we believe can bring back the pride and self reliance to our Deaf Community.

1)   To make the Boards and Staff of our local agencies accountable for their actions by bringing back open elections of board members who have been nominated and elected by the Deaf Community they serve.

2)   By empowerment through knowledge of current issues, we believe the Deaf can regain control and governance of the services that are so vital to the Deaf Community to function and gain acceptance in areas of employment and fair treatment under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  Also making the doors that have been closed to the Deaf open by demanding equal access to services under the law.

3)   To strengthen the voice of the Deaf Community by promoting independence, assertiveness and self advocacy.

4)   To educate and inform the general public about the existence and prevalence of audism in and toward the Deaf Community.

Who are we?

We are a group of people who would like to see the Deaf Community strengthened through involvement in the affairs and issues facing the Deaf in Central California. We hope through exploring this web site you will be inspired and motivated to become leaders and bring a new source of pride to those deaf who feel oppressed. We also hope that you find the resources here helpful for finding the solutions to the many issues facing our community.  This site is both Political and Educational.  Our hope is that it will provoke you to action and cause you to think.
